It is nearly impossible to keep water from entering your basement if the ground surrounding the building is saturated. No amount of sealing can provide a permanent solution. We have learned through experience that the best solution to a leaky basement is to collect and remove the water before it can enter the living space.
Whether the drain tile is placed around the foundation exterior or below the floor on the basement interior the drian tile must be surrounded by gravel that is specially sized for the purpose.
Basement Waterproofing
Basements are imperfect concrete structures built in soils that vary widely, even within the Metro Milwaukee area. In Milwaukee, leaky basements have been a problem for as long as there have been basements.
Interior Drain Tile
A drain tile is a 4-8" diameter flexible hose that has many evenly spaced small holes, allowing water to enter the piping. These drainage pipes used to be made if kiln fired clay, hence its misleading name. The drain tile is used to direct water to a large tank called a crock that contains a pump. When the crock fills with water a float switch activates a pump that pumps the water up to above ground level and out to a reliable run off.
Water that collects around the foundation enters the basement through the walls, floors and the joints between them. Assuming that you have performed an outside inspection as outlined in the Basement Checklist then a thourough inspection is in order. Please call or Contact Us now!
First, we remove some of the basement floor to create a channel and expose the footings.

Drain holes are drilled into the interstitial spaces of the bottom course of block. Accumulated water often pours out of the fresh drain holes.

Here, the drain tile is in the channel and surrounded by gravel. A drain shad is being install at the intersection of the wall and the floor.

The right angle shad allows water from the drain holes to seep into the drain channel. The shad also allows air to enter the drain.

Finally, the entire channel is covered to the level of the existing floor.
